Dr. Aled Hapgood
Dr Aled Hapgood has over 19 years experience in Anaesthesia. He graduated from St George’s Hospital Medical School, London, UK in 1996 (MBBS). He gained his UK Fellowship in Anaesthesia in 2005 (FRCA) in the South West Thames deanery, London and completed a paediatric and obstetric anaesthetic Fellowship at the Mater Hospitals, Brisbane in 2006.
He returned to Australia to work in Brisbane in 2008 and in 2009 he was awarded his Australian and New Zealand Fellowship in Anaesthesia (FANZCA) and accepted an appointment as a staff specialist in anaesthesia at the Mater Hospitals, Brisbane. Dr Hapgood currently holds a part time senior staff specialist appointment at this institution.
Dr Hapgood is a supervisor of training for the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and is also a senior lecturer with the University of Queensland Faculty of Medicine. He examines for the Faculty of Medicine and, when required, for the Queensland Anaesthetic Rotational Training Scheme.
Dr Hapgood has engaged in private practice in the Brisbane area since 2010 and in 2018 he joined Narcosia Anaesthetic Group. He enjoys working in most of the anaesthetic subspecialties and is particularly interested in high risk obstetrics and in-utero foetal surgery. He is proud to have been the anaesthetist with the team performing Australia’s first in-utero spina bifida repair at the Mater Mothers’ Hospital, Brisbane in 2016.
Outside of work, Dr Hapgood enjoys rugby union, all forms of fishing and spending time with his wife and children.
